TRANSPORTATION AND POVERTY
Did you know that transportation is the number one obstacle to overcoming poverty?! Households in poverty have lower vehicle ownership rates yet still spend a higher proportion of their income on transportation. limited vehicle availability and fewer affordable transportation options affect this cost-sensitive group. Lack of transportation strains access to jobs, goods, and services. Studies have shown that ownership of a private automobile is the key element of success in individuals transitioning into the workforce. As the wealth gap widens, it becomes increasingly evident that low income individuals need help obtaining transportation.

Q:Where do we earn the vouchers for credit?
These weekly volunteer events rotate through approximately twenty well known local nonprofit organizations. They include national organizations like Habitat for Humanity and the Ronald McDonald House as well as more locally driven organizations like homeless housing and animal shelters.
How much worth is the voucher earned for?
For every Volunteer Day attended the participant may receive a $50 voucher credit, good for up to a year to redeem. In addition to earning vouchers for yourself you may earn them for other individuals as long as clearly stated at the start of the event.
How does the voucher help?
Vouchers may be used for down payments, deferred down payments and tax, tag and title and even to pay down your principal as long as they are redeemed in the first 60 days of purchasing the vehicle.
How much can I pay off my purchase with using the voucher?
Individuals who choose to participate in the program may pay up to 40% of a vehicle using vouchers issued from the events.
Do I have to earn vouchers in order to purchase a vehicle from the dealership that issues them?
Even though we hope that everyone participates in the Community Overdrive program, it is your decision as to whether or not you choose to attend the events, ie. it is not a requirement to participate in the program to be eligible to purchase vehicles from the dealership; it is just an added subsidy and a means of financial aid for those in need of assistance with getting into the vehicle.
